A Secret Game - Latest Billy Nicholls release available to buy now

Southwest Records are proud to present this new album by Billy Nicholls: A collection of a few old songs; revisited and re-recorded, plus some new compositions.

‘A Secret Game’ lyrics were inspired by part of a Ghazal ‘Be Not Grieved’ written by the Persian poet Hafiz and translated by Meher Baba.

‘Without Your Love’ first appeared on the ‘White Horse’ album; before being a huge hit for Roger Daltrey; who sang this song for the soundtrack of the film ‘McVicar’. This new version has vocals by Billy, recorded by his son Morgan on analogue tape at Olympic Studio in Barnes. Ironically, this was where he recorded many of his earlier works ‘Would You Believe’ and ‘Love Songs’.

‘Everloving Arms’ another track revisited, was originally recorded for the ‘White Horse’ album in Los Angeles in 1976.

‘Brief Encounter’ was inspired by the last few moments of the 1940’s film of the same name; written from the standpoint of the husband.

‘Waiting for a Friend’ is a new recording of another track; which was especially written for the ‘McVicar ‘film and originally sung by Roger Daltrey.

‘Amy’ as it says in the song, was written for Billy’s baby daughter a long time ago. The song was recently recorded live by his son Morgan in his Studio and filmed by his other son Will. The video presented to Amy at her wedding to fellow musician Louis Matthews in December 2014, can be viewed here on the website front page.

A Secret Game’s cover is the concept of Billy’s son Will.

The Front Cover image has been taken from a painting by Dudley Edwards; a long time family friend who was part of the Binder, Edwards & Vaughan team of artists producing psychedelic art in the 60’s.

Dudley also produced the Artwork for the cover of the album: ‘Love Songs’.The Back cover includes an image from a Chinese Dream stone purchased from an antique shop in Kensington.
